Why Is CBD So Popular?

CBD oil is having a moment. This natural compound, derived from the cannabis plant, is popping up in everything from supplements to skincare products. But what exactly is CBD oil, and why is it so popular?

What is CBD?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is one of over 100 cannabinoids found in cannabis plants. These compounds are responsible for the plant's various medicinal and therapeutic properties. Unlike its more famous cannabinoid cousin, THC, CBD is non-intoxicating, meaning it won't get you high.

How is CBD Made?

CBD oil is made by extracting CBD from the cannabis plant, then diluting it with a carrier oil like MCT oil or coconut oil. This process is called lipid extraction.

Why is it Popular?

The popularity of CBD oil has exploded in recent years, as more and more people discover its various health benefits. CBD oil is said to offer relief from anxiety, pain, inflammation, and insomnia, among other things. It's also being used to topically treat skin conditions like acne and eczema.

Curious about trying CBD oil? Here's everything you need to know about this popular natural remedy.

Is CBD as Impressive as it Seems?

As mentioned, CBD has been shown to have a number of potential health benefits. For example, it may help reduce anxiety, relieve pain, and improve sleep.

Despite these potential benefits, many people are still skeptical about CBD. This skepticism is often due to a lack of understanding about how CBD works.

CBD works by interacting with the body's endocannabinoid system. This system is responsible for maintaining homeostasis, or balance, in the body.

Endocannabinoids are molecules that bind to cannabinoid receptors. There are two types of cannabinoid receptors, CB1 and CB2.

CB1 receptors are found mostly in the brain and are responsible for mediating the psychoactive effects of THC. CB2 receptors are found mostly in the immune system and are thought to play a role in inflammation.

Although CBD has little binding affinity for either of the two cannabinoid receptors (CB1 and CB2), cannabidiol modulates several non-cannabinoid receptors and ion channels. CBD also acts through various receptor-independent pathways—for example, by delaying the “reuptake” of endogenous neurotransmitters (such as anandamide and adenosine) and by enhancing or inhibiting the binding action of certain G-protein coupled receptors.

Let's take a closer look at some of the evidence behind CBD's purported health benefits.

Anxiety: CBD has been shown to reduce anxiety in several different studies.

For example, one study found that CBD was effective in reducing social anxiety in people with social anxiety disorder (SAD).

Another study found that CBD significantly reduced anxiety and discomfort in people with public speaking anxiety.

Pain: CBD has also been shown to be effective in reducing pain.

One 2017 study found that CBD was effective in reducing neuropathic pain, or pain caused by nerve damage.

Another study found that CBD was effective in reducing arthritis pain.

Sleep: CBD has also been shown to improve sleep. One study found that CBD improved sleep quality in people with chronic pain.

Another study found that CBD increased the duration of sleep in people with insomnia.

The spray is ideal for issues such as anxiety, sleep, blood sugar issues, chronic pain, immune issues and many other health concerns.
Recommended use is to start with a lower dosage (5mg) and increase slowly. The tincture gets more effective over time.
Daily use is recommended.

So, does CBD really live up to the hype?

Based on the evidence, it seems that CBD may indeed be effective in reducing anxiety, relieving pain, and improving sleep.
